A breast lump is a localized swelling, bulge, or bump in the breast that feels different from the breast tissue around it or the breast tissue in the same area of the other breast. There is a wrong notion in most people's mind that all breast lump are cancerous. Breast lump can be because of cancer, fibroadenoma, infection or cyst. Every woman should do regular breast self examination by standing in front of a mirror and feeling the breast right upto the armpit. If there is any lump of whatever size immediatly consult a breast specialist. After few investigations like Mammography, USG Breast, FNAC or Biopsy it can evaluated whether it is cancer tumour or not. In case the results turn out to be positive for cancer then the breast specialist in India would advise you for further advanced investigation like PET CT scan to know the stage of the cancer. Survival in case of breast cancer is maximum the only condition is that the the detection should be as early as possible.
In case you notice any of the following symptoms please see a breast specialist:
Lump in the breast
Any discharge from the breast
Pain in breast
Change in shape of the breast
The line of treatment for the breast lump would depend upon the nature of the lump which could be ascertained through investigations like, MR Mammography, Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) or a Trucut Biopsy. In case the breast lump is benign or non cancerous then the breast specialist in India would advise you to get the lump removed by the surgery called lumpectomy. Whereas in case the result is positive for malignancy or cancer, mastectomy (breast removal) is advised whis followed by IHC markers to decide whether a chemotherapy is required with radiation or hormonal therapy is required for the treatment.
The cost of breast surgery depends upon the nature of the lump. The surgery may be a simple lumpectomy in case of a benign lump or a mastectomy in case of a cancerous lesion. In case it is a lumpectomy that is to be done then the cost of the surgery for most of the international patients would be USD 2500 to USD 2800 with 1-2 days stay inhospital and post discharge stay in India would be for about 14 days. In case of mastectomy the cost would be USD 4000 to 4500 with about 3 days stay in hospital and post discharge stay in India for about 2-3 weeks.
