Hip Replacement In GNH Hospital Gurgaon
Hip replacement surgery
Total joint replacement involves surgery to replace the ends of both bones in a damaged joint to create new joint surfaces. Hip replacement surgery can be performed as a total replacement or a hemi (half) replacement.
Total hip replacement surgery uses metal, ceramic, or plastic parts to replace the ball at the upper end of the thighbone (femur) and resurface the hip socket in the pelvic bone while hemiarthroplasty generally only replaces the femoral head.
Why it is done?
Total hip replacement is most commonly used to treat joint failure caused by osteoarthritis. Other indications include rheumatoid arthritis, avascular necrosis, traumatic arthritis, protrusio acetabuli, certain hip fractures, benign and malignant bone tumors, arthritis associated with Paget's disease, ankylosing spondylitis and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. The aims of the procedure are pain relief and improvement in hip function. Hip replacement is usually considered only after other therapies, such as physical therapy and pain medications, have failed.
Hip replacement surgery results are often excellent. Most or all of your pain and stiffness should go away.
Over time the artificial hip joint will loosen. This can happen after as long as 15 - 20 years. You may need a second replacement.
